WHAT IS VESSEL DOCUMENTATION?
Simply put, vessel documentation is a form of registration through the US Coast Guard. Unlike state titling, USCG vessel documentation occurs at the federal level. The basic requirements for vessel documentation are to demonstrate ownership or chain of ownership on the vessel through forms such as Builder’s Certificates, Coast Guard signed and notarized Bill of Sale and/or state registration. Additionally, you need to provide documentation of US Citizenship and that your vessel meets the requirements for the endorsement sought.
WHY DO I NEED VESSEL DOCUMENTATION?
Vessel Documentation provides conclusive evidence of nationality for international purposes, provides unhindered commerce between states, and admits vessels to certain restricted trades, such as coastwise trade and the fisheries. Esthetically, you are not required to display the official number on the outside of the Hull. Actually, most of our clientele opts to not display their official number because they enjoy the “sleek” look.
